Tax holiday weekend for emergency supplies

Date:

April 26-28 will be a statewide sales tax holiday for emergency preparation supplies, according to the state comptroller’s office.

The sales tax holiday begins at 12:01 a.m. Saturday and ends at midnight on Monday, April 28.

Approved by the Texas Legislature in 2015, the holiday allows sales tax-free purchase of household batteries, fuel containers, and flashlights under $75, hurricane shelters and emergency ladders under $300, and portable generators under $3,000. Items that don’t qualify are auto batteries, camping supplies, chainsaws, plywood, extension or stepladders, and tents.

A complete list of sales-tax-exempt items can be found at tinyurl.com/TxPrepHoliday or on the comptroller’s website, comptroller.texas.gov
