Library System Adds Explorer Adventure Packs to Collection

Date:

Brazoria County Library System is happy to announce the introduction of the Library Explorer Adventure Packs (LEAP) to our catalog. LEAP was made possible through the efforts and partnership of the Texas Children in Nature Network (TCiNN) along with their sponsors, the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) and Texas Parks and Wildlife (TPWD).

LEAP provides library patrons in Brazoria County with access to a variety of nature-themed backpacks filled with books, journals, tools, and other equipment to encourage outdoor exploration. The LEAP program aims to connect children and their families to nature and the outdoors while developing new skills that promote physical activity, healthy habits and behaviors, mental health, and sustainable living.

There are five themes to choose from: Outdoor Skills, Birds & Birdwatching, Butterflies and Insects, Fish & Fishing, and Wildlife Around You. The backpacks are available to library patrons of any age. They can be found by searching “LEAP kit” in the library’s online catalog.

STATE PARK WAIVERS: The backpacks are available for up to a two-week check-out period. During the two weeks, individuals and families who take the LEAP backpack with them to one of the three area State Parks (Brazos Bend, Galveston Island, or Stephen F. Austin) will receive two free adult admissions (13 and up) at the State Park, along with free entry for children 12 and under.
