ACC Foundation Awards Grants and Honors Staff

The Alvin Community College Foundation presented approximately $24,000 in grants and awards at the annual Honoring Excellence Reception on April 29.

The ACC Foundation presented its Excellence Awards, which recognize college faculty and staff members who go above and beyond daily. Winners this year were Biology instructor Brittani Bewick, college recruiter Misty Abraham, textbook technician Mark Simpson, and accounts payable specialist Melissa Flores. Each received $1,000.

The Adjunct Faculty Excellence Awards winners were EMS instructor Skye Schroeder and Respiratory Care instructor Sam Adamo. Each received $500.

Innovative Initiative Grants were also awarded during the reception.  These grants are designed to encourage, facilitate, recognize, and reward innovative and creative approaches to fulfill the mission of ACC. The grants will be used for the 2025-26 academic year.

Diagnostic Cardiovascular Sonography Director Danielle Kemendo was awarded $1,500 for ergonomically designed sonography equipment to prevent work-related musculoskeletal disorders.

Vocational Nursing instructor Thirty Lacy received a $2,000 grant to fund professional development opportunities for Nursing adjunct instructors.

History instructor Chris Chance was awarded $2,000 for the Study Abroad program throughout Texas.

Communications instructor Denise Bates received $1,600 for the project to create a magazine published collaboratively by students in the Communications and Arts programs.

Art Chair Alexis Ordonez received $2,000 to fund a 3-D clay printer for the Art Department.

Welding coordinator Michael Mejia was awarded $3,000 for a CNC Plasma table to integrate cutting technology into student training.

History Chair Dr. Alexander Marriott received $950 for the Making History Sing project, which will recreate lost or forgotten music from the Library of Congress in collaboration with the History and Music departments.

Respiratory Care director Marby McKinney was awarded $3,000 for a program to upgrade CPR training for Allied Health students, including mobile units and mannequins.

Vocational Nursing instructor Linley Glover received $3,000 for a training program to simulate dementia for students and staff to raise awareness about the disease and to improve treatment.
