Friendswood ISD (FISD) is proud to announce the 2025 recipients of its annual districtwide recognition program, honoring outstanding Teachers, Paraprofessionals, Coaches, and Support Staff of the Year. These individuals have demonstrated exceptional commitment, innovation, and passion in supporting student success across all FISD campuses.
This year’s Teachers of the Year exemplify excellence in education, from inspiring classroom instruction to deep student connection and advocacy:
- Friendswood High School: Melissa Sauceda
- Friendswood Junior High: Courtney Adkins
- Westwood Elementary: Jennifer Quigley
- Cline Elementary: Amy Belloumini
- Bales Intermediate: Alexis Young
- Windsong Elementary: Rachel Bourgeois
“These educators are truly exceptional in their craft,” said Candace Metz, Chair of the Staff Recognition Committee for the Friendswood Education Foundation. “Their ability to create meaningful, engaging, and supportive learning environments leaves a lasting impact on students, families, and our district as a whole.”
Superintendent Thad Roher echoed the sentiment, stating, “These teachers embody the heart of our district. They ignite curiosity, foster meaningful relationships, and equip students to reach their fullest potential. We’re proud to celebrate their leadership.”
FISD also recognizes the essential contributions of its Paraprofessionals of the Year, who support classroom learning and student well-being every single day:
- Friendswood High School: Juanita Ruffeno
- Friendswood Junior High: Kelly Harris
- Westwood Elementary: Kaitlin Thomas
- Cline Elementary: Tiffany Lowe
- Bales Intermediate: Delaney Young
- Windsong Elementary: Carlee Hendershot
“Our paraprofessionals are the steady hands and compassionate hearts of our campuses,” Metz said. “They show up with purpose and joy, supporting teachers and students in ways that truly matter.”
In addition, Shelby Cruz, from the FISD Technology Department, has been named Support Staff of the Year for his vital behind-the-scenes work in ensuring campuses are equipped and supported with instructional technology tools.
The district’s Coaches of the Year were also celebrated for their leadership, mentorship, and athletic excellence:
- David Cook – 20-5A Team Tennis Coach of the Year
- Sarah Paulk – 20-5A Volleyball Coach of the Year
- Craig Sikkema – 18-5A Girls Swim and Dive Coach of the Year
- Danny Russell – 20-5A Boys Basketball Coach of the Year
“Our coaches do more than lead teams—they build character, resilience, and confidence in our students,” Metz added. “This year’s honorees have gone above and beyond in their roles, and we’re honored to recognize them.”
The FISD Education Foundation is proud to support this annual recognition of excellence, continuing its mission to celebrate and uplift the individuals who make Friendswood schools a place of innovation, growth, and community.
