Pioneers go undefeated in postseason, outscoring opponents 53-0
Houston, TX – The Lutheran South Academy Pioneers left no room for doubt in their march to the TAPPS Division II state baseball championship, capping off a dominant postseason with an 11-0 shutout victory over Grapevine Faith last week.
Ranked No. 1 in Texas heading into the playoffs, LSA lived up to every bit of the hype—and then some. Under the leadership of head coach Aaron Schneider, the Pioneers did not allow a single run throughout their entire playoff run, recording four consecutive shutout wins on their way to the state title.
The championship game was highlighted by a stellar performance from senior pitcher Grant Burns, a Wharton County Junior College commit, who threw a complete-game shutout and tallied nine strikeouts. His effort earned him the TAPPS Division II State MVP award and capped a flawless postseason stretch for the Pioneer pitching staff.
LSA’s path to the title included decisive victories over St. Joseph (16-0), Kelly Catholic (10-0), and Second Baptist (6-0), showcasing not only elite pitching but also explosive offense and airtight defense.
The Pioneers’ success was driven by a roster packed with talent. LSU-commit Omar Serna and University of Texas signee Marcus Cantu powered the offense, while Brody Smith (St. Thomas), Victor Coronado (Texas State), and Wyatt Powell were each named to the All-Tournament team for their outstanding contributions.
Lutheran South finished the season with an exceptional 33-3-1 record and a postseason stat line that will be hard to match: four playoff games, four shutouts, and a combined score of 53-0.
