Project to add capacity to busy intersection

Date:

Construction is set to begin this month at the intersection of Pearland Parkway and Broadway, addressing safety and congestion issues.

“This follows several years after the successful implementation of southbound dual left turn lanes at this same intersection,” City Manager Trent Epperson said.

The Pearland Parkway-Broadway intersection has been identified in mobility studies as having long delays and high volumes of crashes, particularly rear-end and turning collisions.

City Council on July 28 awarded a $1.1 million construction contract to MetroCity LLC for work that includes adding a second left turn lane, a right-turn lane on the southwest approach and new right-turn lane on the northeast approach, plus sidewalk and curb ramp upgrades to meet ADA standards and full reconstruction of traffic signal infrastructure.

Construction is expected to be complete in February 2026, though some council members were skeptical.

“If there are issues with supplies on the traffic signal, there could be some delays on the actual signal,” Epperson said.
