The Bay Area Council, Scouting America, will hold its annual Friends of Scouting Community Gathering on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at the Johnnie Arolfo Civic Center in League City. The event will bring together community members to celebrate the impact of Scouting on young people and to honor leaders whose service has shaped future generations.
This year’s Golden Eagle Honoree is State Representative Dr. Greg Bonnen, who represents House District 24. In addition to his career as a neurosurgeon, Dr. Bonnen has been a steadfast advocate for education and youth development in Texas. His efforts to advance public policy supporting families and students have made a lasting mark across the region.
Friendswood Mayor Mike Foreman, USN (ret), will serve as guest speaker. A former NASA astronaut and retired Navy captain, Foreman flew on two space shuttle missions—STS-123 aboard Endeavour and STS-129 aboard Atlantis—logging more than 26 days in space and completing five spacewalks during the construction of the International Space Station. Since leaving NASA, he has focused on civic leadership, infrastructure improvements, and emergency preparedness while continuing his strong support for Scouting and STEM education.
“The contributions of leaders like Dr. Bonnen and Mayor Foreman help ensure that Scouting continues to grow and thrive in our region,” said Rene Monarez, Scout Executive of the Bay Area Council. “Their commitment to youth and community is an inspiration, and we are honored to recognize their service”.
The Friends of Scouting Community Gathering is a key fundraiser for local Scouting programs. Proceeds from the event provide resources that help young people build character, develop leadership skills, and serve their communities. Attendees can expect a morning of networking, breakfast, and inspiring stories of Scouting’s impact.
