Pearland Charter change could be on May ballot

Date:

The City of Pearland in February is expected to call a special election in May on proposed charter amendments.

One amendment was suggested by a review commission after a months-long review of the city’s charter. That proposed amendment changes wording requiring newspaper publication of public notices to be done by another method such as the city’s website if future legislation allows.

“It would be one item on the ballot, but it would impact 10 different sections within the charter,” City Attorney Darrin Coker said.

A required public hearing on Dec. 15 drew no speakers.

“If state law moves and changes and morphs, it’s good to have language in there to able to adjust with it,” Mayor Kevin Cole said.
