Meg Crowley Announces Candidacy for Friendswood City Council, Position 6

Date:

Meg Crowley has formally announced she is running for Friendswood City Council, Position 6. Crowley grew up in Houston and graduated from Memorial High School in 1981 and attended the University of Texas at Austin. In 2020 she decided to complete her educational goals at Lamar University and will be graduating with honors in May 2022. Like most Friendswoodians, Crowley chose Friendswood as her home because of the City’s reputation for being a safe, close knit community; and for her daughter Megan to experience the exemplary schools in FISD. Her husband, Rich Delgado, retired last year from NASA and has lived in Friendswood for 36 years. Crowley has worked in the marketing and advertising industry for over 13 years before starting her own firm in 2006 and continued as managing partner until 2020.

Crowley has been a devoted volunteer and philanthropist to many civic and community organizations. Her volunteer efforts were formally recognized in 2013 when she received The United States President’s Volunteer Service Award from President Obama. Over the past 25 years of service, she has assumed many leadership roles within several organizations such as the President of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation, President of the School Board at St. Helen Catholic School, and the President of Texas Gulf Coast Republican Women.

Soon after moving to Friendswood, Crowley began volunteering with the Friends of Downtown Friendswood Association (FDFA) to work on the revitalization efforts for Downtown and was elected to the FDFA Board in 2015. “Like many others, I saw the untapped potential for economic growth and the benefits of a vibrant, walkable, and family friendly Downtown” said Crowley.

In 2017 Crowley applied for the Friendswood Community and Economic Development Committee (CEDC) and was appointed by City Council and served as Vice Chair in 2018. When discussing her experience, Crowley said “During my 3 years on CEDC, I gained valuable knowledge working with corporate prospects, Planning and Zoning Commission, and working with the incredible City staff.”

In 2018 she was elected to the FISD Education Foundation Board of Directors where she served on several committees and chaired the Fundraising Committee which develops programs that support local businesses while generating income for the foundation. Crowley spoke of her experience saying, “This reflects my commitment to the business community as well as the students and schools in Friendswood. I was a proud supporter of the FISD construction bond election in 2020, which I viewed as an investment in the community and necessary to maintain FISD’s excellence as one the top public schools in the State.”

She also added, “My desire to run for City Council, Position 6 stems from my enduring commitment to volunteerism and the importance of being involved in the community. As a member of City Council, I will utilize my experience and knowledge from the private, public, and non-profit sectors to prioritize flood mitigation, traffic efficiency, and continue the efforts of making Downtown Friendswood an economic engine to ease the burden on homeowners’ property taxes. As a member of City Council, I will be an active, visible, and engaged member of the community.”
