Volunteers needed as peak storm season nears

Date:

The American Red Cross, Texas Gulf Coast Region is recruiting volunteers as the peak of hurricane season approaches.

The Red Cross is launching nearly twice as many major disaster relief operations as it did a decade ago, says spokesman Vanessa Valdez, and volunteers make up 90 percent of its workforce.

Most-needed volunteer positions include shelter support, health services and disaster action team members to assist in events such as house fires.

More information on volunteering can be found at redcross.org/volunteertoday.

More details on building an emergency kit, evacuation plans and how to stay informed can be accessed through the organization’s free app at redcross.org/apps.
