The much-anticipated first day of school in Friendswood Independent School District (FISD) dawned with the familiar rumble of yellow buses, the invigorating scent of freshly cut grass, and an undeniable sense of excitement that hung in the air. On Tuesday, August 15, Friendswood ISD welcomed back students, parents, and educators for the beginning of the 2023-2024 academic year, with an enrollment of 6,061 students across the District.
The highlight of this new school year is the unveiling of the new Cline Elementary, which has been transformed into a vibrant educational space catering to pre-kindergarten through 5th-grade students. This state-of-the-art campus is poised to foster a nurturing environment that sparks curiosity, growth, and achievement for its young learners.
Further enhancing the educational landscape, Windsong Intermediate has undergone a meaningful transition, rebranding itself as Windsong Elementary. With this transformation, the school now welcomes K-5 students for the very first time, adding a new layer of excitement to its already-established reputation for academic excellence. The school’s commitment to fostering a strong foundation for young minds remains unwavering as it embarks on this new chapter.
Additionally, FISD is proud to announce the establishment of the groundbreaking Therapeutic Education Center (TEC), a transformative initiative resulting from the award of a prestigious $1.3 million grant. Set to serve as the district’s seventh campus, this facility will be shared with Pearland ISD and Alvin ISD, underscoring a commitment to collaboration and community-driven solutions.
The TEC is designed to cater to students with disabilities who face behavioral challenges in a traditional classroom setting. With specialized programs, expert staff, and a nurturing environment, this center will provide tailored educational experiences that empower these students to unlock their full potential and thrive academically and emotionally.
