The Next Generation: QB Brock Foster celebrates breaking 54-year record

Date:

In a record-shattering performance, Friendswood High School senior quarterback Brock Foster etched his name in the annals of high school football history by breaking a 54-year-old single-game passing record. This remarkable feat, achieved during the last game of the season against Magnolia West, saw Foster surpass the previous record of 428 yards set back in 1969 by then-quarterback Kent Ballard.

The historic evening was not just about yardage; Foster also eclipsed the single-game pass attempts mark, surpassing the record of 41 attempts set by quarterback Jacob Karam in 2008. Foster’s arm strength, accuracy, and tactical acumen were on full display as he masterfully orchestrated the offense, earning his place among the most talented quarterbacks in the school’s history.

Adding a touch of nostalgia and community spirit to this momentous achievement, Kent Ballard, the former record holder, who still resides in Friendswood, recently met with Foster to extend his personal congratulations.

This meeting between two generations of outstanding athletes symbolized the enduring legacy and camaraderie of Friendswood High School’s athletics programs.

“Brock and I really enjoyed visiting with Mr. Ballard and comparing stories and experiences from his historic record setting night in 1969 and Brock’s night this year,” said Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Jordan Johnson.

“Mr. Ballard had great pieces of advice to offer to Brock for continuing to play football at the collegiate level, along with what it takes to be successful. This was a great moment for Brock and for the Friendswood Football program and a representation of the strong ties the program has to our history, the community, and also serves as a glimpse into the very bright future of Friendswood football.

“Our program has amazing roots and we are in the process of becoming a complete program. We are intentional with each moment we have to prepare and this interaction between Brock and Mr. Ballard is evidence of that.”

Foster’s record-breaking performance was a fitting end to his final season at FHS, further distinguished by a remarkable last-minute win over Magnolia West, 48-47.

As Foster prepares for his future endeavors, his legacy will inspire upcoming athletes to reach for new heights.
