FHS has 17 compete at Science, Engineering Fair

Seventeen students from Friendswood High School competed at the 65th annual Science and Engineering Fair of Houston held at the Epicenter in Rosenberg on Saturday, February 17. Over 1300 students participated in the fair and represented 26 counties in the Greater Houston area.

Students presented their research to judges from the Houston scientific community.

The following students received awards for their projects.

Ishan Pendyala received a Grand Award and 1st place in the category of Systems Software with his project “Developing Epileptic Activity and Trigger Content Detection Software using a Computer-Based Application for Real-Time Monitoring and Seizure Reporting.”

Ishan will advance to the Texas Science and Engineering Fair held at Texas A&M University in March. Ishan will also be one of the representatives from the Houston area at the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair, which will be held in May in Los Angeles, California.

Olivia Esbeck and Lillian Gonzales received an Honorable Mention in the Energy/Transportation category for their “Ferrofluid, Electromagnetic Train” project.

Daniel Levin and Silas Lovett received a Special Award from the North Houston Space Society for their Physics/Astronomy project, “From Code to Energy: Simulating Fusion within a Web Application”.

Science teacher Patrick Rosenberg was recognized as one of the Senior Division Teachers of the Year for his contributions to mentoring students through the Science Fair research process.

Other students who competed include Sreeja Tipirneni, Aayush Jetly, Natalie Chang, Sofia Rivera, Lana Koussayer, Mariam Mohsin, Joel Blessan with Ky-Minh To, Shivam Gupta, Emma Mills with Valeria Restrepo, Pengbao Wei, and Ethan Praisoody.

FHS Science teacher Rebecca Clark coordinated the show for FHS.
