Friendswood launches Sunscreen Dispensers Initiative

Date:

Friendswood has launched a new initiative to promote sun safety by installing sunscreen dispensers throughout the community. This effort is part of the broader “Practice Safe Skin” program, spearheaded by the city in collaboration with Castle Biosciences and IMPACT Melanoma.

The program aims to provide residents with easy access to free sunscreen, helping to prevent skin cancer and encourage safe practices under the sun.

The initiative kicked off with a ribbon-cutting ceremony in Stevenson Park, attended by Mayor Mike Foreman and key figures from Castle Biosciences and IMPACT Melanoma. This event also marked Friendswood’s recognition as the first Sun Safe Leadership Model City in Texas.

Castle Biosciences, a publicly traded company based in Friendswood, is sponsoring the initiative. The company is known for its innovative tests that guide patient care, including DecisionDx-Melanoma and DecisionDx-SCC, which help assess the risk of melanoma and cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma metastasis, respectively.

These tests are crucial for effectively managing and treating skin cancer, reflecting the company’s commitment to improving health outcomes through advanced diagnostics.
This local initiative is part of a larger series of actions by Castle Biosciences during Skin Cancer Awareness Month, highlighting their ongoing commitment to skin cancer prevention and education.

The company’s involvement underscores the importance of community-based health initiatives that leverage local businesses’ expertise and resources to enhance public health.
