Bands finish 1st, 10th in marching contest

The Pride of Pearland Marching Band and Color Guard earned the No. 1 spot in Saturday’s Bands of America South Houston regional contest in Webster, while the Dawson High Eagle Band finished at No. 10.

Results of the final round held Saturday night placed Pearland High at the No. 1, followed by Ronald Reagan High at No. 2, Bridgeland High School at No. 3 and Klein Oak High at Nov. 4. Dawson High came in at No. 10 in the finals, followed by Friendswood High at No. 11.

After performing at the Friday night football game, band students arrived early Saturday for the BOA preliminary round. PHS performed again —  after 10 a.m. — for the finals, earning first place as well as the Outstanding Visual Performance award. Dawson also competed in the finals and finished in the top 10. The Bands of America Marching Competition, or BOA, is a program of the nonprofit Music for All.

The Pearland High band is under the direction of Ryan Demkovich, Aaron Gantt, Jordan Barker, Clayton Jasper, and color guard director Jacoby Taylor.

The Dawson Eagle Band directors are Aaron Brown, Nathan Coronado, Dominique McCray, Lou Boldrighini, and color guard director Nicholas Gerling.
