Witnesses intervene in assault following major accident

Date:

On Friday, December 27, 2024, Friendswood Police responded to a disturbing scene involving a domestic assault and a major vehicle accident in the 1700 block of W. Parkwood Avenue.

At approximately 12:23 pm, officers arrived to discover that the incident began after a male suspect was picked up by his mother from a local bar. According to police, the suspect became violent during the drive, striking both his mother and the vehicle. The situation escalated when the suspect grabbed the steering wheel, causing their truck to collide with another truck traveling in the same direction.

Witnesses reported that after the collision, the suspect continued his assault outside the vehicle, striking his mother repeatedly. Bystanders attempted to intervene by honking and shouting, but the suspect dragged the victim by her hair to the passenger side of the truck, where the assault persisted.

One courageous witness managed to stop the attack by physically pulling the suspect away from the victim. The victim, who sustained multiple injuries, was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The suspect was taken into custody by Friendswood Police and has been charged with Injury to an Elderly Person, a third-degree felony.

Police have commended the bravery of the witnesses who stepped in to protect the victim, emphasizing their critical role in ensuring her safety.

“Our community’s quick response and willingness to act in the face of danger is commendable,” a police spokesperson said.
