Historic site hosts battle reenactment

A reenactment of the Battle of San Jacinto will mark the historic battle’s 189th anniversary this Saturday, April 26, at the San Jacinto Battleground Site in La Porte.

Scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the event by the Texas Historical Commission and San Jacinto Museum will include actors in period costume with reenactments set for 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., plus hands-on activities for families focused on daily routines of soldiers and civilians almost 200 years ago, vendor market and food booths.

Activities will include cartridge box making, haversack packing, quill and ink, weapons touch table, and learning about battlefield medicine and flag making. Lectures will be held at 10 a.m., noon, 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
