Gaido was born in Galveston and grew up on Galveston Island and in Friendswood. He began learning the family business in the summer of 1998, when he worked at Gaido’s Restaurant – a local institution for over 100 years.
A graduate of Friendswood High School, he earned his business management degree from Baylor University. After graduation, he attended the Culinary Institute of America in New York, followed by a restaurant internship in New Orleans.
He joined the Gaido’s Restaurant staff in 2011, performing various roles including recipe development and rebranding Nick’s Café. He was named President of Gaido’s in 2016.
He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Friendswood ISD Education Foundation, Galveston Restaurant Association, and the JP Griffon Memorial Foundation. He also serves on the Galveston College Culinary Board and is a Past Director of the Galveston Economic Development Partnership. He has served on the HomeTown Bank Board of Directors since 2023, and was a member of the Advisory Board for five years prior to that.
He is the third generation of the Gaido family to serve in a leadership role at HomeTown Bank. He succeeds his father,
M.J. “Mickey” Gaido, Jr., as Board Chairman. Nick’s grandfather, M.J. “Mike” Gaido, Sr., also served as Chairman of the bank.
He resides in Friendswood with his wife, Kateryna, and their three children.
“We are extremely fortunate to have Nick Gaido on our Board of Directors,” said HomeTown Bank President and CEO Allan Rasmussen, Jr., “and I could not be happier for Nick and his family to have him serve as our Chairman. He is a respected community leader with a successful track record, and his long legacy with Hometown Bank speaks for itself. Like his father Mickey, Nick is a true visionary, and I am excited for the future of our institution.”
