Scouts Clean Waterways, Earn Hours, Badge

Date:

Two local Scout groups recently showed community spirit while working on service hours and a merit badge.

Scouting America Troops 442 and 4420 members made an 8-mile, four-hour canoe/kayak trip on Clear Creek Saturday, May 17, 2025. They started the trip at 1776 Park in Friendswood and ended at Countryside Park in League City.

While in canoes and kayaks, the scouts removed trash and debris from the waterway.  They reported seeing wildlife on the creek, such as white-tailed deer, herons, and many fish, including gar.

By accomplishing this high adventure and trash removal task, each scout met the requirements for environmental service hours and their camping merit badge.

Scouts who participated include Owen Sanders, Thaden Sanders, Caden Cupisz, Hayden Neilsen, Bryce Flick, Clara McGarvey, Lorelei McGarvey, Francesca De Lillo, Zoey Frahm, and Penny Meesseman.

The scout leaders are Bill Gillespie with Troop 442 and Cassie McGarvey with Troop 4420.

The scouts meet at Friendswood Methodist Church and are sponsored by the Friendswood Rotary Club.
