38th Annual JP Griffon Fishing Tournament raises scholarship funds for 2025 graduates

Date:

One of Texas’ largest in-shore fishing tournaments once again combined friendly competition with a commitment to education, as the 38th Annual JP Griffon Fishing Tournament raised scholarship funds for graduating seniors of the Class of 2025.

Held in May in Port Mansfield, the event drew more than 250 anglers and continued a proud tradition of honoring students with financial support for their post-secondary education. This year, ten graduating seniors were each awarded a $2,000 scholarship thanks to proceeds from the tournament.

The scholarship recipients from Friendswood High School include:

  • Dyllan Baker
  • Ella Barber
  • Trace Barber
  • Avery Buras
  • Daisy Harris
  • Allie Keener
  • Nicholas Ruffeno
  • Lane Vegas
  • Mabry Venables

Also receiving a scholarship was Joshua Reeder of Clear Creek High School.

In addition, two special awards were presented to students involved in campus organizations:

  • Lila Garcia, named the Griffon Wranglerette scholarship recipient
  • Ben Seifert, awarded the Griffon FFA scholarship

Organized annually to support local youth, the JP Griffon Fishing Tournament has become a hallmark event for both sport and service, drawing participants from across the state. Friendswood High School Principal Mark Griffon thanked the community for its continued support and congratulated the scholarship winners for their achievements and bright futures ahead.
