Visit Pearland Unveils New Interactive Mural

Date:

There’s a new mural in town, and you’re invited to join the fun. Visit Pearland revealed the city’s first interactive mural on Wednesday, May 21, at Zychlinski Park to a crowd of local art enthusiasts and community advocates.

The mural, aptly named the Old Town Chalk Mural, is painted in the play space at the historic Zychlinski Park and includes fill areas for artists of all ages to color in again and again. The project developed from the city’s inaugural Pearland Grand Arts & Eats event, which took place on April 26 and celebrated the Old Townsite district of Pearland and featured artist and maker booths, farmers market vendors, live music, a FUMC Family Fun zone, and local restaurants.

“The concept is new and exciting for the community,” said Tracy Rohrbacher, Executive Director of Visit Pearland. “Residents and visitors alike are invited to bring chalk to Zychlinski Park and complete the mural as they see fit. Once the chalk has worn away, the mural is brand new again and ready for the next artist to make their mark.”

How it works:

  • Everyone can bring their own chalk to Zychlinski Park
  • Find the Old Town Chalk Mural near the playground
  • Color in the empty spaces of the mural
  • Snap a photo and tag #VisitPearland on social media

The Old Town Chalk Mural marks the first public art installation inspired and initiated by Sara Peters, who joined Visit Pearland as Arts Administrator following the adoption of the City’s first Cultural Arts Master Plan in July 2024. The plan has laid the foundation for this creative momentum, now brought to life through leadership and vision.

Keep track of things to do in Pearland, including more arts and culture activations, on Visit Pearland’s social media channels and at VisitPearland.com.

Sara Peters starts work on the interactive mural.

Community members from across the city joined together to debut the chalk mural.
