A plan to replace more than 6 miles of aging water lines in the Green Tee subdivision will get under way soon, and Pearland city staff say crews will work to keep impacts to the neighborhood minimal.
“We are aware of the impact we could have on neighborhoods,” City Manager Trent Epperson said. “The work is designed and planned to mostly be trenchless construction, but we will have to disrupt the neighborhood to some extent, but we will be coordinating with the HOA and the residents.”
City Council on July 14 awarded a $2.8 million contract to Underground Construction Solutions LLC.
The city has an ongoing plan to replace about 51 miles of transite water pipes, which have a higher failure rate than PVC. Those in the Green Tee neighborhood were installed between 35 and 50 years ago, city documents say, “and are at increased risk of failure due to both pipe age and material.”
The lines will be replaced as well as upsized to larger pipes, and service lines to customer meters will also be replaced. The project is expected to provide higher flow capacities and improved water quality.
Councilmembers asked about streets in Green Tee, and staff said these are listed as priorities for a future bond package.
“It got a 62 or 64 on our (pavement rating). We would appreciate it if we can get that in our next bond package,” Councilman Joseph Koza said.
