Rotary Club donates to global and local causes

Date:

The Friendswood Rotary Club continued its tradition of service above self last week by presenting two donations totaling nearly $20,000 — one supporting global health efforts and the other advancing local education.

The first donation, a $5,000 check to the New Hope Kibera Clinic, was presented to Rotarian Ashley Adair, who has spent the past four years traveling to Africa on medical mission trips. The funds will go toward purchasing essential medical supplies for the clinic, which provides care and education to residents of Kibera, one of the largest urban settlements in Kenya.

“Our very own Ashley Adair has a heart of gold,” the Club shared in a statement. “Rotary of Friendswood was honored to present her with a check for $5,000 to New Hope Kibera Clinic for medical supplies. Ashley has been going on mission trips to Africa for four years and has a deep passion to help locals gain access to medical care and education. She continues to serve on the clinic’s Development Committee to further help this community.”

The second donation — $14,853.30 — was made to the Friendswood High School Engineering Department through the Friendswood Rotary Foundation in partnership with the Friendswood Education Foundation. The funds will provide an industry-grade laser cutter, a state-of-the-art tool that will allow students to design and fabricate components for robotics, rocketry, and other engineering projects.

“This new resource will empower students with hands-on experience and real-world skills,” the Rotary Club said. “We can’t wait to see the incredible projects these students will bring to life.”

The Friendswood Rotary Club continues to support a wide range of initiatives that strengthen both the local community and global humanitarian causes — from education and youth programs to healthcare and international outreach.
