Pearland voters elected a new mayor while largely maintaining continuity across City Council and school board positions in Saturday’s municipal election.

In City Council races, incumbent Mona Chavarria retained her Position 3 seat, defeating challenger Toshila McLean with 6,210 votes (55.21%) to McLean’s 5,037 votes (44.79%).
Councilmember Rushi Patel kept his Position 7 seat, running unopposed and receiving 8,709 votes.
Voters also approved both city charter propositions by wide margins. Proposition A, which aligns city charter language with state law regarding public notices and announcements, passed with 89.13% of the vote. Proposition B, which implements a civil service system for the Pearland Fire Department similar to the one used by the police department, passed with 89.79% approval.
In the Pearland ISD school board elections, incumbents successfully defended their seats. In Position 1, Toni Carter won re-election with 3,926 votes (50.39%), defeating challengers Rich Bradley and Chris Counts, who received 39.06% and 10.55% of the vote, respectively.
