FPD mourns loss of K9 Tigo

Date:

The Friendswood Police Department is mourning the loss of K9 Tigo, who died unexpectedly on June 9 during a diagnostic surgical procedure.

Tigo joined the Friendswood Police Department in July 2019 and served the community for nearly seven years alongside his handler, Sgt. Granillo.

Throughout his career, Tigo played a critical role in supporting law enforcement operations, helping to protect both officers and residents while exemplifying the dedication and discipline expected of police service dogs.

In a statement released June 11, department officials described Tigo as a loyal partner whose impact extended far beyond his duties in the field.

“Anyone who had the opportunity to see them work knew that their relationship extended far beyond that of handler and K9; it was a true partnership and friendship,” the department said.

Police officials noted that the bond between Tigo and Sgt. Granillo was built through years of training, trust and shared experiences. Tigo was not only a working dog, but also a constant companion who stood beside his handler through the challenges and successes of police work.

On June 15, members of the Friendswood Police Department gathered with law enforcement partners from across the region to honor Tigo’s service and support Sgt. Granillo and his family.

The department thanked neighboring agencies for their presence, calling it a meaningful reminder of the close-knit bond shared throughout the law enforcement community.

Friendswood police also expressed gratitude to Parkwood Animal Hospital for hosting a private memorial service and providing an opportunity for department personnel to pay their respects.

The department asked the community to keep Sgt. Granillo and his family in their thoughts during this difficult time.

“We are grateful for Tigo’s nearly seven years of faithful service and the legacy he leaves behind,” the department said. “He will be missed, but he will not be forgotten.”
