Drought restrictions downgraded to ‘Stage 1’

By N. Bradford

Southeast Texas is still in a drought, but the City of Pearland as of Tuesday moved to Stage 1 drought restrictions regarding use of water.

“It has downgraded a bit, but we do have drought conditions,” assistant City Manager Ron Fraser said.

Stage 1 calls for voluntary conservation of water. Residents are encouraged to water lawns only on days they have trash service scheduled and between the hours of 7 p.m. and 9 a.m.

Level 2 restrictions, or mandatory conservation, were enacted Aug. 30 and lifted effective Tuesday.
