Library Hosting Solar Eclipse Viewing Event

Date:

On Oct. 14, 2023, all of North America and Central America, and most of South America will experience an annular (ring-shaped) solar eclipse. Because the Moon is farther away from the Earth, it appears smaller than the Sun and creates a unique “ring of fire” appearance in the sky.

The eclipse is expected to start at 10:23 AM and end at 1:33 PM Central Time. For more information about eclipses or related topics, visit your local branch library or browse our e-branch catalogue -mybcls.org/35/eBranch.

West Pearland Library, a branch of the Brazoria County Library System, will be hosting a community eclipse viewing event on Saturday October 14, 2023 at 10 AM. Join us at 11801 Shadow Creek Parkway in Pearland to view this special astronomical experience.

Please note the program begins in advance of the event. Patrons can create eclipse chalk drawings while safely viewing the eclipse on the back lawn.

Viewings will take place on the back lawn of the library. Patrons can watch the event safely with special eclipse viewing glasses, provided by NetStar and The Friends of Pearland Westside Library.

Eclipse viewing glasses are available while supplies last and will be distributed 15 minutes before the event. Parking spaces are limited and carpooling is highly recommended.

For more information, call the West Pearland Library at 713-436-0995.
