FHS celebrates success in Rodeo Art Competition

Date:

Friendswood High School’s art department, led by teachers Mandy Harris and Mary Wise, has achieved an extraordinary accomplishment in the prestigious Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo art competition. The school has been honored with the Super Show Award, a testament to its excellence and outstanding participation in the rodeo school art program.

This recognition is not just a feather in the cap for Friendswood High School but also a significant milestone for the district, known for its smaller size compared to others in the area. Despite this, the art program has demonstrated remarkable talent and commitment, resulting in unprecedented success.

Remarkably, an unprecedented ten out of the school’s twenty finalists were selected to have their artwork displayed in the Hayloft Gallery at the rodeo. This achievement is particularly notable as the school is typically guaranteed only three spots in the gallery.

The standout artists from Friendswood High School include Amorette Garcia, who clinched the Best of Show with her colored pencil work “A Cowgirl’s Companion,” and Rania Palmer, who was awarded a Gold Medal for her painting “Brotherhood.” Evia Rand also received a Gold Medal for her colored pencil piece ‘Ponderin’.”

Special Merit accolades were bestowed upon several students: Sofia Hernandez for “Morning Ride,” Rylan Lynch for “Side by Side,” Jacy Mackenzie for “Cowboy’s Pride,” Devon Palmer for “Free Living,” Kamryn Phillips for “Home of the Brave,” Isabella Thompson for “Morning Glow,” and Vivian Tang for “Lone Star.” Each of these works, created using various techniques, showcases the diverse talent and creativity flourishing at Friendswood High School.

This outstanding achievement at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo art competition reflects the high caliber of art education at Friendswood High School. Teachers Mandy Harris and Mary Wise, along with their students, have not only raised the bar for artistic excellence but have also brought significant honor and recognition to their school and district.
