The Friendswood Historical Society has a fundraiser underway.
Through the help of the City of Friendswood, the Society members are selling DVDs of the City’s Memorial Day Ceremony.
The events and historical information about Friendswood which turned 125 this year makes the DVD a family keepsake and a wonderful program to show and share with friends and family.
The Memorial Day Ceremony aired for the first time on Memorial Day as a virtual celebration for the city to share with its residents. Friendswood has held ceremonies on the grounds of City Hall and wanted to continue to honor veterans especially on the city’s 125 th year. The video had personal stories, patriotic music, bagpipe presentations, and much more in honor of those who served.
. In preparing the script for the 125th year ceremony the Historical Society was requested to give a history telling how Friendswood has supported its active military and veterans over the past 125 years.
It is thought that Quaker beliefs and military service were/are incompatible. The DVD addresses the question of how Friendswood has supported active military and veterans along with photos of the Friendswood military and Conscientious Objectors men’s pictures and branches of service.
Sales are underway and President of the Historical Society Debra Sasser reports there are some still available for purchase. The price is $25 and includes shipping. The money is a donation to the Friendswood Historical Society.
To order or get more information, contact Sasser at debrasasser@gmail.com.
The Friendswood Historical Society mailing address is PO Box 474, Friendswood, Tx 77549.
“Thinking ahead, the DVD would be a nice stocking stuffer,” Sasser said.
