The Pearland Post Office at 3519 E. Walnut St in Pearland will be named after Mayor Tom Reid.  He is being honored in this way for his service to the community for many years. This news was brought to City Council at their regularly scheduled meeting July 27 by Congressman Pete Olson. Reid was surprised, honored and appreciative.

In other Council news, the Council members approved a resolution adopting a Five Year Capital Improvement Program. The development of the capital improvement program is a continual process and, it will be viewed as a working document.

While the document covers a five-year planning perspective, it is revised every year in order to accommodate new projects, reflect changes in ongoing projects, and extend the program another year. The approval was a vote of 4-2.

Phase IV of the SH 288 Corridor Master Improvement Plan Project was on the agenda for approval with two companies listed to consider. After much discussion, the decision made by Council was to not accept either proposal and go out for new bids for the project.

Council also authorized a Pearland Economic Development expenditure of $121,850 for design services associated with the Halik Street Reconstruction Project.

After much discussion, the vote was 3-3 with the mayor breaking the tie to 4-3 and passing the motion.
