Rotary Club presents Friendswood Parks and Rec with check

A presentation was held at the November 2, 2020 meeting of the Friendswood City Council by the Friendswood Rotary Club.

Representatives from the club presented Mayor Mike Foreman with a donation to the City of Friendswood Parks and Recreation Department for the purchase of a new movie projector.

Parks and Rec has a successful outdoor movie program in Centennial Park that was able to be held this year through a drive in movie concept.

Other  successful programs were discussed by City Manager Morad Kabiri in his City Manager’s report.

The Friendswood Library hosted their annual poetry contest in October with over 60 participants and guests online via Zoom. Local writers had the opportunity to share their poems with writers from across the region, state, and as far away as Manchester, England. Friendswood Library’s annual event continues to grow each year, now finding an international audience.

In conjunction with America Recycles Day, the City and Keep Friendswood Beautiful are holding the Annual Fall Haul, community clean-up event on Saturday, November 14, at Centennial Park, 2200 S. Friendswood Dr., from 8 am – 2 pm. Residents will have to show proof of residency to participate.

The 2020 Flapjack Fun Run will be held virtually on Saturday, December 5. Participants can register at www.parks.friendswood.com and will use the City’s Fun Run app to make their own 5K race from virtually anywhere.

Swag bags will be provided and can be picked up on Friday, December 4.Traditionally, the Flapjack Fun Run, named after the pancake breakfast served by Whataburger after the race, is held in Stevenson Park.

This year, the City will be continuing with the pancake breakfast by providing Whataburger pancake mix to the first 100 participants who register, along with Whataburger breakfast coupons in this year’s swag bags.

All race proceeds will be used for City park improvements. For questions, call the Parks and Recreation Department 281-996-3220.

Due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, Santa in the Park has been cancelled.  In its place, the City of Friendswood and KFB will present Home Town Bank of Friendswood’s Home for the Holiday’s Lighted Christmas Trail.

From November 27 through January 1, Stevenson Park will have a lighted Christmas Trail with 100,00 lights, opportunities to take family Christmas photos, and a way to mail letters to Santa in a North Pole mailbox.  Please come enjoy some socially distanced holiday fun at Stevenson Park.

Friendswood Rotary Club presented the Friendswood Parks and Rec Department with a check for $10,000 for movie equipment  at the Friendswood City Council meeting November 2, 2020. Dr. Desiree Hopping with check was joined by Mayor Mike Foreman and Chris Turner, Morad Kabiri, James Toney, Charlie Organ, Derrick Brown and Mike Boyette.
