FISD Board honors staff, students

Several awards to both staff as well as students were presented at the  Friendswood ISD School Board meeting Monday, December 14 in the Board Room at the Annex at 402 Laurel Dr.

Four Making a Difference Awards were presented.

Angie Pittman from Windsong Intermediate was honored for making a difference as assistant to the principal on campus. This is Pittman’s first year in the district.

Tiffani Kirk was honored with the award for her work as a Pass teacher at Windsong. She has been with the district for three years.

.In the Special Education Department, Sara Guzman was honored for her work as a third year Occupational Therapist. Alexis Young was honored for her three years as a classroom paraprofessional serving as the district Special Education PEIMS clerk.

Celebration of Excellence awards are presented by the district to students who compete at the State and/or National Level in UIL competition, display outstanding character, strong leadership skills, and/or show academic growth and progress. 

At the December meeting FISD and the Board of Trustees honored several individuals and groups.

FHS sophomore Cole Brock was honored for learning the Braille Code.

Friendswood Junior High eighth grader Aidan Brooks was honored for having a poem published in the Fall issue of The Stuttering Foundation magazine

The Boys Cross-Country Team was recognized for finishing fourth place overall at State competition. Team members who placed included Zade Kayyali who was the fastest freshmen at both the 5A Division and at State, Seth Thompson, Eli Karg, Ronan O’Donnel, Carlos Henriquez, Daniel Armstrong, and Brycen Jones.

Kyla Zalit was also recognized for competing at State in long distance running.

The Board also approved the naming of the new elementary school to be Cline Elementary.

Lindsey Foley, currently FISD’s Director of Business Services was approved as the new Executive Director of Human Resources.
