Friendswood Council gets improvement updates

An update on Capital Improvements was given at the recent City Council meeting in Friendswood.

Fire Station #2 reconstruction is underway and 68 percent complete. Target date is May 2023.

The Public Safety Building expansion at 1600 Whitaker Drive is 94 percent complete with interior work ongoing. Target date is April 2023.

Blackhawk Facility Renovation at 15355 Blackhawk Boulevard began on January 17, 2023. All operations moved to the right one-third of the building to make it still operational. Shelter renovation component will commence after substantial completion of new offices.

In Harris County Precinct 2 the Blackhawk Blvd.  Phase II-B project from Geneva Dr to Pennystone Way off the boulevard will start at the current northern terminus of rebuild street and will extend approximately 1115 feet (.85 lane miles). At the time of the Council meeting, 90 percent of the plans had been delivered to the city and bids are planned to be out soon.

In the Phase II-C project, Blackhawk Blvd. from Pennnystone Way to  FM 2351;; Thursa Lane to FM 528) Precinct 2 has opened up application period for its 2023 Partnership Program.

The 24 inch Clear Creek Water Line Crossing Project will run generally parallel to FM 2351 from Surface Station 2 to FM 518. The engineering contract was awarded January 2023.

Surface Water Plant #1 Tank Replacement has its engineering contract awarded January 2023. The plant is at Blackhawk Boulevard behind Calvary Church.

Ground Storage Tank at Ground Water Plant #4 is at 500 W. Castle Harbour. The application has been submitted to the Texas General Land Office to fund the project.

Annalea Subdivision Infrastructure Upgrades on Virginia Lane and Ella Court has also had its application submitted to the Texas General Land Office to fund the project. The project replaces undersized aging waterlines and reconstructs concrete streets.

The Bay Area Boulevard Update is south of FM 528 on Bay Area Blvd. The contractor has been delayed due to wet weather.  The lime for soil stabilization has been difficult to obtain due to a large order across the region.

TxDOT projects include FM 518 Curb and Ramp Project and FM 518/FM 528 Intersection improvements.
