Date:

Burglary

July 6 (2:25 a.m.) A suspicious person was observed standing by two vehicles in the 1300 block of Crawford Drive. The owner of the vehicles alerted the suspicious person. The person fled, on foot, toward John Street.

Police believe the person was a juvenile who they know to be unsupervised and has been known to break into vehicles and peek through windows. Video surveillance showed a white male pulling on the doors handles of the vehicles.

July 8 (1:35 p.m.) A witness reported what appeared to be burglary of a vehicle in progress in the HEB parking lot located at 701 W. Parkwood Avenue. The witness observed a black male standing in front of a red Honda.

He was the “look out” while another black male was leaning through the front passenger window of the Honda and rummaging through the vehicle. The witness believes he may have spooked the burglars. They got back in their vehicle, a gray, newer model Hyundai SUV, and fled from the scene. The owner of the red Honda was located.

The suspects smashed the front window to enter the vehicle. Nothing of value was taken. However, the victim had just left Chase Bank after making a withdrawal. The entire incident was captured on store surveillance video.

Theft

July 7 (8:46 a.m.) The theft of a tailgate was reported at the Reserve at Autumn Creek Apartments located at 3102 W. Bay Area Blvd. The tailgate was affixed to a white Ford F350. It was taken between 6:30 p.m. and 8:12 p.m. on July 6.

July 6 (11:18 a.m.) A Friendswood woman received a phone call from someone claiming to be with Chase Bank. The person had several pieces of personal identifiers and tried to get more personal information out of the woman. She became suspicious, hung up the phone, and called her bank. They confirmed that the call was from a scammer. Later, she received an email about a credit card application being denied.

July 6 (5:09 p.m.) An 83-year-old Friendswood woman was working on her computer when she received a screen on her computer that said she had been hacked and to call a phone number. She called the number and spoke to a man with an accent who claimed to work for a security company and informed the victim that someone had stolen money from her bank account.

She was instructed to withdraw the same amount of money and to meet him at an address on Scarsdale Blvd in Houston. She drove to her bank and was instructed to remain on the telephone.

She made the withdrawal, was questioned by the bank teller who tried to find out if she was being scammed and left the bank. Fortunately, she received a call from a family member who told her she was being scammed and to pull over. The family member met up with the victim.

As they drove away, they were followed by a black Mercedes Benz SUV. The driver was honking his horn and flashing his lights to get them to stop. They drove to the Friendswood Police Department. The Mercedes continued driving past.
