Parking prohibited on Bluewater Highway

Date:

Brazoria County Commissioners in June approved a parking ban along the length of unincorporated Bluewater Highway, or County Road 257.

An estimated 50 “no parking” signs were posted last week along the 10-mile stretch of highway.

“It seems like we have a recurring issue on County Road 257,” County Engineer Matthew Hanks told commissioners. “The request came in from a landowner initially about making the section of Bluewater Highway in front of his property ‘no parking,’ and when I began talking with the Commissioner Payne and Constable (David) Thacker we all agreed this made sense for the entire length of Bluewater Highway based on what we’ve seen this spring and summer.”

The ban was enacted to enhance visibility and safety as well as protect natural habitat.
A public hearing held June 27 drew no speakers.
