Construction is expected to begin soon on a segment of Bailey Avenue west of Main Street, or Highway 35, including the railroad overpass.

The city’s thoroughfare plan calls for Bailey to be a four-lane road with a raised median. Phase 1, finished in 2007, constructed two lanes and a bridge over the railroad on the north side.

As part of the 2019 Bond Referendum, the upcoming phase 2 will add two lanes and a south bridge over the railroad.

City Council on July 10 approved a construction manager and inspection contract for the project with Aguirre and Fields LP.

“This is actually our last contract to get in place for construction to move forward,” City Manager Trent Epperson said. “We’ll start to see the contractor mobilize here very shortly.”
The work area will include Bailey Road from Main Street to Veterans Drive. Construction is expected to be done in 2026.

In addition, Industrial Drive West will soon undergo reconstruction as part of a State Highway 35 Corridor Redevelopment Strategy approved in 2016.

Funded through the Pearland Economic Development Corp., the project this month entered the design phase with a $541,839 contract between the city and CobbFendley & Associates. The rebuild will include upgrading to concrete pavement, curb and gutter, sidewalk and lighting.

“The street is a narrow asphalt road that is substandard and in need of upgrading to support the industrial and commercial growth,” city documents state.
