The Friendswood Rotary has announced the return of the 12×12 Art Project. This unique venture aims to shine a spotlight on local artistic talent while simultaneously raising funds to inspire the artists of tomorrow within the Friendswood community.
A curated selection of 40 local artists, chosen by an expert jury panel, have been invited to partake in this distinctive project. Each participant is tasked with creating a 12x12x1 inch art piece on a birch panel, employing a variety of artistic mediums. These unique works of art will be featured in an online auction, which is set to be a major fundraising event for the arts in Friendswood’s schools.
The pieces are due by October 13th, after which they will be displayed at central locations throughout Friendswood for community members to view in person. The online auction itself will open on November 8th and run until December 8th, offering art lovers near and far the opportunity to bid on these unique works.
In addition to providing a platform for showcasing the diverse artistic talent within the Friendswood community, the 12×12 Art Project also offers valuable marketing exposure for the participating artists. Their works will be promoted to over 3,500 households and 7,200 unique email addresses, and will be displayed alongside links to their professional bios or websites.
However, the heart of the project lies not only in the celebration of current artists, but also in the nurturing of the next generation of creatives. All proceeds from the online auction will be donated to the Friendswood ISD Education Foundation, specifically to fund fine arts grants within the Friendswood Independent School District.
“This is a tremendous opportunity for our community to come together in support of the arts,” said Luis Briones, Friendswood Rotarian and owner of Friendswood Frame & Gallery. “Not only will we be able to showcase the incredible talents of our local artists, but we’ll also be investing in the future of art within our community.”
