Several years in the making, a draft of Pearland’s long-range, “comprehensive plan” will be presented and discussed by city leaders this Monday.
The special city council meeting and presentation on the plan takes place at 4 p.m. Monday at City Hall, 3519 Liberty Drive. The council’s regular meeting follows at 6:30 p.m. in the same location.
The state encourages all municipalities to maintain a comprehensive plan — a regularly updated, long-range document used to guide decisions on land use, development and long-range goals. It includes categories such as parks, transportation and future land use.
Pearland’s first comprehensive plan was adopted in 1968. Its most recent update to the plan was adopted in 2015.
In 2021, the city hired the firm Kimley-Horn and Associates Inc. to develop a new plan. A public feedback and visioning campaign known as Pearland 2040 included a website, stakeholder interviews and input sessions. Those were to be incorporated into the draft plan.
