Pearland city leaders this month recognized Pearland High softball coach Laneigh Clark with a proclamation at City Hall and a standing ovation.

Clark, who led the Lady Oilers to the Class 6A state championship, is stepping down from her position as softball head coach but will remain on the high school staff until officially retiring in May 2024.

“Every once in a while, somebody special walks into your community, and you look up and see the tremendous impact they have,” Mayor Kevin Cole said. “Coach Clark is one of those.”

Clark came to Pearland in 1998 and took a team to the playoffs her first coaching season and took teams to the state tournament five times.

“It’s been a wonderful place for us,” Clark said. “I can’t think of any other place I would rather be than Pearland, Texas.”

In Pearland, her record is 688 wins, 227 losses and 5 ties.
