Tony Hopkins, Friendswood High School Class of 1994, is being honored as one of the 2023 FHS Distinguished Alumni award winners. He will join three others and be honored at the Alumni Banquet on October 5 at Golfcrest Country Club in Pearland.
He is being celebrated for his many accomplishments since high school graduation.
He is currently celebrating his 30th year as the Voice of the Mustangs. Football fans in FISD recognize his voice at each Varsity home game as he introduces the team at the beginning with what has become a tradition, putting school spirit in the team name and getting the fans excited for the game. He began this Friday night job while still in high school and in 2023 is still giving it his all.
After Hopkins graduated with honors from Friendswood High School in 1994, he attended Lamar University and received his BBA with highest honors in Finance in 1997. He earned his MBA in Finance and Entrepreneurship from Rice University in 1999.
Hopkins worked in the domestic power industry for 18 years and completed transactions on over 6000 MW worth of power facilities. He began his career with El Paso Energy. In 2003, he joined Arroyo Energy (a subsidiary of Bear, Stearns and later JP Morgan Chase).
In 2015, Tony and two partners left JP Morgan Global Commodities to start Arroyo Energy Investors, an independent private equity firm focused on energy investments in the Americas.
Joining Modular Plant Solutions in 2018 as an equity owner and Vice President of Finance, he currently serves as CFO over 10 operating companies in the energy, construction and manufacturing industries.
As a lifetime resident of Friendswood, Hopkins is to be commended for his community service. He sits in Position 4 on the Friendswood ISD School Board of Trustees. He is currently President of the Board after being chosen to serve in that position in 2018.
Hopkins has served as the President of the Gulf Coast Area Association of School Boards for 2019-20 and 2020-21. Since 2018, Hopkins has served on the Board of Directors of the Texas Association of School Boards since March 2018 and will serve as First Vice-President for the 2023-24 school year.
He and his wife Sheri have two children: Cooper (Class of 2024) and Bailey (Class of 2028). Both attend FISD schools.
The other three alumni being honored at the banquet include Cheryl Hatcher Bouillion, Dan Gattis and William Gillespie.
