Historical Commission seeks untold topics

Date:

The Texas Historical Commission announced it is accepting applications for an “under-told historical marker program” to address historical gaps and document significant underrepresented subjects or untold stories.

Nominations are being accepted through Nov. 15, and criteria include the ability of the topic to address gaps in the THC historical marker program, its value as an untold aspect of Texas history, endangerment level of a site or property, and relevance to the statewide preservation plan, among others.

Applicants submit at least 250 words about the topic, suggested sources for research, and a proposed location where the marker would be placed. Any individual or group can submit an under-told topic, and there is no application fee. If selected, a topic will receive a free historical marker.
