State seeks volunteers for advisory boards

Date:

The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation is taking applications for 17 advisory boards that provide expertise to the agency, which regulates a broad range of occupations, facilities, and equipment statewide.

“Thanks to a change in state law, we’re able to hold most of our advisory board meetings online, so members no longer have to travel to Austin to meet,” said TDLR Executive Director Mike Arismendez Jr. “We hope that more people will want to get involved.”

Boards with vacancies include AC and refrigeration contractors, auctioneer, architectural barriers, behavior analyst, code enforcement, electrical safety, hearing instrument fitters, combative sports, speech-language pathologists, towing and storage, water well drillers, and more. Some of the board vacancies are for public members representing Texas consumers and do not have a connection to the industry of their appointed board.
Most terms are six years, though some are shorter because a seat has been vacated.

Advisory board positions are voluntary, and the chairman of the Texas Commission on Licensing and Regulation appoints members.
