Pearland City Council on November 27 voted to create the city’s first reinvestment zone in five years to make way for a planned expansion of Brask Inc.
In the first of two required readings, the council approved the creation of a reinvestment zone near Industrial Blvd and Highway 35, a necessary step in granting a tax abatement for a local company looking to expand.
“This is not voting on a tax abatement tonight; that would be up for consideration by resolution on the December 18 agenda,” City Attorney Darrin Coker said.
Brask Inc., an oil and gas, industrial machinery and equipment manufacturer, first came to Pearland in 2011, building a 100,000-square-foot facility. The company is now looking to expand with an additional 40,000 square feet of manufacturing facility plus office space and is requesting a tax abatement.
A second reading to create the reinvestment zone will occur at the December 11 city meeting.
