Benchmark tests given to Pearland ISD students during the fall of 2023 show many were already meeting grade level — depending on the grade and subject.
Pearland ISD Trustees reviewed the most recent benchmarks at their December meeting. Administered in the fall to third through eighth graders, the tests show that most students are at or approaching grade level.
The lowest scores were among Spanish speakers on the math benchmark, with 65 percent performing at grade level.
Among the 1,421 fifth graders who took a math benchmark, nearly 90 percent were approaching grade level, and almost half scored at the master’s level.
During that meeting, trustees OKed a standard review of purchases over $50,000 for October. These included $180,000 in fuel, a $626,432 chiller replacement at Alexander Elementary, $274,945 each for chiller replacements at Cockrell and Magnolia campuses, and a $315,953 Microsoft renewal.
Trustees are presented with monthly reports for purchases that exceed $50,000.
