Opening this Friday, the Pearl Theater’s new play is guaranteed to go wrong in increasingly disastrous ways.
Set in the 1920s, the popular comedy “The Play that Goes Wrong” is a “play within a play,” as the cast attempts to pull off a murder mystery. However, everything that can go wrong — including uncooperative props and forgotten lines — does.
The 2012 play by Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer, and Henry Shields won Best New Comedy at the 2015 Laurence Olivier Awards and has been described as a blend of Monty Python and Sherlock Holmes.
The Pearl Theatre’s production, directed by Leslie Barrera, opens at 8 p.m. this Friday and continues at 8 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday at the community theater, 14803 Park Almeda Drive. Performances continue through April 7.
The box office opens an hour before showtime for ticket purchase and pickup. Tickets are $18 for seniors and students and $20 for adults.
The Pearl Theatre’s 2024 season also includes “Disney’s Descendants: The Musical” from May 3-12 and “American Son” set for June 14-30.
