Transportation: Mobility study to vet ‘one-way’ model

Date:

by Nicole Bradford

Public feedback is underway for two mobility studies happening in Pearland — one of which will examine switching a portion of Broadway to one-way only-traffic.

The one-way model has been a topic of conversation for several years.
“It’s a concept that’s been out there,” Mayor Kevin Cole said during a recent workshop, adding that the study and data is better than speculation.

The Houston-Galveston Area Council is conducting the FM 518 corridor study, which will evaluate the impact of making FM 518 a one-way street through Old Town. Walnut Street will also serve as a one-way street in the opposite direction between McLean and Barry Rose. The study will examine FM 518 from Old Town at Berry Rose to Edgewood Drive in Friendswood.

In addition, a “general mobility study” will examine the city’s entire transportation network, including pedestrian and cyclist safety and public transit.

Through June of this year, H-GAC will collect public feedback at events such as Spring Fest and an online survey at https://bit.ly/49nIbSh.
Public meetings will be planned beginning in June, along with a presentation to the city council.

A draft of recommendations is expected to be issued in September or October, and final recommendations will be determined by February 2025.
