The apparent passing of two Pearland ISD bond propositions will spell relief for the school district’s operating budget with approval of $105 million in facility and technology upgrades.
The two bond propositions narrowly passed, each with just over 55 percent of the vote, according to unofficial reports reported by Brazoria County.
The election results are considered unofficial until they are canvassed, which is expected to happen within the coming week.
In the event the technology bonds were approved by voters, the PISD school board in January voted to refund $6.2 million recently spent for replacement student devices to the district’s operating budget.
A bond advisory committee recommended the bond projects that district officials said would transform into an oversight committee for the bond projects.
The two separate propositions were $30 million for technology to be paid off over five years and $75 million for facilities and infrastructure needs such as roofs, HVAC, electrical systems, and elevators.
In the PISD board election, Air Force veteran Jenny Francis edged out a victory for position No. 6 with 1,811 votes compared to 1,482 for opponent Terrence Campbell.

For Position No. 3, financial planner Danielle Swiney garnered nearly 46 percent of the vote, compared to 36 percent for retired educator Dixie Jones and 18 percent for real estate professional Rebecca Zavala.
In a special election to fill an unexpired term in Position No. 7, incumbent Gabriel Garza received 61 percent of the vote over challenger Cheratta Campbell Roberts, with 39 percent.
