Dawson High School senior Darien Nealy has been named the inaugural recipient of the Keep Pearland Beautiful Golden Pear Fellowship Award and the accompanying $10,000 scholarship.
The award is given to a student with high academic achievement “who demonstrates the absolute highest level of commitment to environmental responsibility,” Mayor Kevin Cole said in a May 13 presentation.
“He impressed upon us his mission in life to inspire those around him,” KPB chief executive officer Adrian Hernandez said. “We’re very excited to see what he does next.”
Nealy said a special thank you to his family, who took him to volunteer opportunities when he was younger.
