37th Annual JP Griffon Fishing Tournament Honors 2024 Graduates

Date:

The 37th Annual JP Griffon Fishing Tournament, one of the largest in-shore fishing events in the state, brought together over 250 anglers this weekend. This year’s tournament not only celebrated the sport of fishing but also aimed to raise scholarship funds for the graduating class of 2024.

The tournament, held in honor of the late John Paul “JP” Griffon since 1988, continues to be a cornerstone event in the community, fostering both competitive spirit and academic support. The 2024 event was particularly special, as it awarded $2,000 scholarships to nine deserving students, aiding them in their upcoming college endeavors.

The scholarship recipients are Claire Howard; Luke Ballard; Trent Baker; Samantha McFadden; Beau Laviolette; Cooper Crow; Jim Perry; Jai Foster; Graham Gides; and Avery Marchino.

The fishing competition was fierce, with two divisions highlighting the event. In the Guided Division, the team “Dark Horse,” led by Charlie Buchen, emerged victorious. Meanwhile, “El Gato” claimed the top spot in the Hardware Division.
