The Pearland ISD Board of Trustees will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, June 11, before considering the adoption of the school district’s new fiscal year budget.
The school tax rate will not be adopted until August; however, after certified property values are determined by July 25, the state issues a final maximum compressed tax rate.
“For anybody new to public school financial decisions, we adopt a budget before we really know how much we have,” PISD Superintendent Larry Berger said, “because we have to adopt the tax rate after we adopt the budget.”
The tax rate for Pearland is not expected to increase, he said.
The school board last month approved 2 percent across-the-board raises for all employees, plus equity adjustments. Unlike many other Texas school districts, Berger said, Pearland ISD does not have a projected budget shortfall forecast for the 2025 fiscal year.
Tuesday’s regular board meeting is set for 5 p.m. at the administration building, 1928 North Main St. A period for public comment is provided, but those who want to speak must fill out a form—available at pearlandisd.org/publiccomment—and submit it before 5 p.m.
